Matthew attended the University of Sydney and obtained an LLB in 1980. He commenced employment with one of the oldest law firms in Australia, Henry Davis York and gained extensive experience in commercial law, litigation, conveyancing and leasing.
Matthew was subsequently offered a job by Gibb Owen who was then a partner with Thurlow Fisher which was at that time known as Thurlow Fisher Owen. Matthew commenced employment at Thurlow Fisher practicing mainly in compensation law, family law, commercial litigation and general practice. Matthew subsequently became a partner in 1984 and shortly thereafter assumed the role of managing partner.
Matthew gradually acquired the interests of all other partners some of whom were retained as consultants. Matthew currently is the sole solicitor director of the practice and with the office manager is responsible for its day to day administration and running.
Matthew practices mainly in commercial disputes, commercial litigation, intellectual property, industrial disputes, partnership disputes, estate litigation and family law. As part of his day to day role Matthew oversees all work being performed in the practice and is responsible for the overall quality control of the legal team working with the office manager who coordinates the highly trained support staff who assist the legal team.
John was admitted to practice as a solicitor on 15 March 1957 and was one of the founding partners of the firm known as Thurlow Fisher. John remained a partner of the firm until 2000 and is retained as a consultant. John has extensive experience in all areas of the law over more than 50 years of practice he has practiced in every field of law imaginable.
He has extensive experience in relation to the law of trusts and he currently works as a consultant advising in relation to Wills and Estate Planning, the establishment of Testamentary Trusts and the interrelation of testamentary trusts with self managed superannuation schemes.
David was admitted to practice on 19 November 1965 and was a former partner of Thomson Bentley & Partners which was recently acquired by Thurlow Fisher. David has extensive commercial law experience practicing mainly in commercial law, estate law, conveyancing and leasing.
John Mallett was admitted to practice on 21 December 1977 and became a partner at Thomson Bentley & Partners. John was appointed an accredited specialist in compensation law by the law society pursuant to its specialist accreditation program. John now works with Thurlow Fisher which following its acquisition of Thomson Bentley & Partners and the establishment of the division of Thurlow Fisher known as Thurlow’s Compensation Lawyers which John is responsible for.
With his extensive experience over many many years John has achieved some landmark settlements and court victories including holding the record for the highest personal injury claim payout in New South Wales for many years. John is an integral part of the Thurlow Fisher Team and Thurlow’s Compensation Lawyers works with a team of barristers and specialists built up over a long period of time to ensure they can deliver exceptional assistance to people whose lives have been effected by events outside their control.
Tim was admitted to practice on 22 December 1983 and subsequently became a partner in a firm Olliffe & Co. Olliffe and Co was acquired by Thurlow Fisher in 2007. Tim has extensive experience in all areas of the law and currently practices in the areas of estates, conveyancing, leasing, commercial litigation and estate planning. Tim assists the principle Matthew Fisher in relation to ethical issues and moral issues arising in more complicated family situations.
