The government has put in place a statutory compensation scheme called The Victims Compensation Tribunal which provides compensation for personal injury for victims of crime. Whilst the scheme is reasonable it has limits to the amount of compensation which can be recovered and for that reason Thurlows Compensation Lawyers also looks at other avenues of compensation available.
It may be that the person that has committed a crime against you has personal assets against which we can endeavour to secure a recovery. In some cases it is even possible to freeze that persons assets to prevent them disposing of them in anticipation of facing a successful claim against them.
Claims by victims of crime also allow an additional head of damages to be claimed being aggravated damages. In simple terms aggravated damages represent a loading or penalty against the person or people that committed the assault to punish or defer people from such behaviour.
